We started the summer at Schibsted Tech Polska with a buzzing Kids Coding Camp. This event, inspired by our Scandinavian colleagues, has reached its another edition and continues to inspire and educate young minds.
Dive into digital creativity
Over three days, children between the ages of 8 and 12 had the opportunity to delve into the fundamentals of coding. Guided by experienced mentors, they explored two programming languages: Scratch and Python. Scratch, with its visual programming interface, allows beginners to understand basic coding concepts through interactive stories, games, and animations. Python, on the other hand, introduced them to a more textual programming environment, which is widely used in professional circles.
Learning through fun and innovation
The camp’s structured yet flexible curriculum ensured that each child could progress at their own pace.
The younger group of children focused on Scratch. They had a fantastic time building and programming with blocks, designing their own games, and experiencing the joy of creating something from scratch. The older group delved into Python, where they programmed games with more advanced elements, pushing the boundaries of their creativity and technical skills.
From basic commands and loops in Scratch to writing simple scripts in Python, the children were able to see the tangible results of their efforts almost immediately.
The impact of early coding education
It develops problem-solving skills, logical thinking, and creativity. Coding teaches children to break down complex problems into manageable steps, a skill that is invaluable in any field. Furthermore, it helps them understand how the digital world around them works, fostering a deeper appreciation for technology.
Events like the Kids Coding Camp empower children, giving them the confidence to navigate the digital world and possibly spark a passion that could lead to future educational and career paths in technology. By providing them with the tools and knowledge to create their own digital solutions, we are preparing them for a future where technology plays an increasingly important role.
